Joint EuFoA-GMF US conference on the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement

On Wednesday, 2 December 2009, The German Marshall Fund of the United States, in partnership with European Friends of Armenia and Stratim, Center for Strategic Communication organized a public debate on the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement entitled “Turkey and Armenia: The Way Forward”. The speakers for the event were Vigen Sargsyan, Senior Advisor of the President of Armenia and Suat Kiniklioğlu, AK Party Deputy Chairman of External Affairs. The debate was moderated by Ron Asmus, Executive Director of the Transatlantic Center, GMF. The initial statements of the speakers were followed by a question and answers session and a lively discussion with the public.

The conference was attended by over 70 guests. The discussion around the Armenia-Turkey relations later continued during a private dinner, which was attended by a number of high-profile guests, including Peter Semneby, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Gunnar Wiegand, Director at the Directorate EU-Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus, Central Asian Republics of the DG RELEX and Charles Tannock, EP AFET Member, Delegation for Ukraine and India, Foreign Affairs Spokesman of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Parliament.
