Press Trip to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh (3-10 May 2018)
European Friends of Armenia organised a press trip on May 3-10, 2018, with the aim of drawing the attention of international media to Armenia and Nagorno- Karabakh. The trip allowed the journalists to explore and discover Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh from an economic, social, cultural and political perspective. Both in Yerevan and Stepanakert, the journalists had the opportunity to meet and interview Armenian and Karabakhi high-level officials, locals and civil society representatives.
Due to the political climate of Armenia at the time of the trip, journalists had the chance to witness the historic ‘Velvet Revolution’ and to meet with activists and write articles on the recent revolutionary protests that put Nikol Pashinyan in power.
The trip also allowed journalists to visit several important Armenian civil society groups and organisations such a IDeA Foundation and COAF (Children of Armenia Fund). During the days they spent in Nagorno-Karabakh, the journalists visited the capital city of Stepanakert, where they enjoyed Shushi Liberation Day celebrations on May 9. Moreover, they visited the Line of Contact and the village of Talish, devastated during the Four-Day War in April 2016 and currently under reconstruction.
They also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the HALO Trust and witness their demining activities, as well as become familiar with the work of the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies.
