EuFoA Event in Yerevan: “The Future of EU-Armenia Relations: What’s next?”

On 18 April 2014, the European Friends of Armenia (EuFoA), supported by the Wilfied Martens Centre for European Studies (WM CES), hosted an event at the Yerevan State University (Yerevan, Armenia) on “The Future of EU-Armenia Relations: What’s next?”.
This event was the occasion for EuFoA to present its recently published short-paper “EU-Armenia relations: future developments and prospects” (please click here to download the English version), in order to trigger a discussion on this subject with Armenian civil society, think tanks, and local officials. A draft version of the paper was presented in Brussels on 12 February during an EuFoA-supported event by the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, where EuFoA Director Eduardo Lorenzo Ochoa was one of the panellists.
The discussion panel in Yerevan, warmly introduced by host Prof Dr Arthur Mkrtchyan, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology at Yerevan State University, included remarks by two remarkable European guests: Member of the European Parliament Mr Frank Engel (EPP, Luxemburg) and Ms Salomé Samadashvili, Former Head of Georgia’s Mission to the EU, Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies Visiting Fellow.
Also speaking was one members of the Armenian Parliament, Mr Tevan Poghosyan, “Heritage” faction MP, Member of the Armenian delegation to EURONEST PA and EU-RA PCC, Secretary of the Heritage faction in the National Assembly.
Closing remarks were given by Mr Eduardo Lorenzo Ochoa, EuFoA Director, before a lively Q&A session with the participants.
EuFoA has organised similar events regarding Europe-Armenia relations in the past, most notably one with Mr Gunnar Wiegand delivering a keynote speech. Please click here to view a short summary of that event.

The successful event was attended by more than 70 people representing Armenian officials, European diplomats, think tank community and NGOs.
