Committee of the Regions Event: Local and Regional Democracy in Armenia
EuFoA’s Director Mr Eduardo Lorenzo Ochoa was one of the main speakers, addressing the interaction between citizen and municipalities, among others.
The event was opened by Mr Olgierd Geblewicz, Marshal of the Western Pomeranian Region and Committee of the Regions rapporteur on European Neighbourhood Policy.
Two Armenian panelists, David Tumanyan, Member of the Group of Independent Experts on the European Charter of Local Self-Government, and Lusine Avetyan, Mayor of Karahunj, Member of the Armenian delegation to the Congress of the Council of Europe, were also present.
“Democracy starts at local level and therefore Armenia needs to further extend inclusive participative community democracy practices, which have been highly appreciated by mayors, city councils and citizens where they have been carried out,” Mr Lorenzo Ochoa said.
The event that was attended by almost 50 people was followed by a reception organised by European Friends of Armenia, providing the audience with a traditional Armenian cuisine and refreshments.
