2016 starts with EU-Armenia executive and parliamentary meetings

Today, on 21 January, the sixteenth meeting of the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (PCC), composed of members of the European and the Armenian parliaments, was held in Strasbourg. It took place just 3 days after their colleagues from the executive branch held the 16th EU-Armenia Cooperation Council. A conference on the institutional relations between the European Union and Armenia took place in the European Parliament yesterday. European Friends of Armenia Participates in hearing about Nagorno-Karabakh in Dutch Parliament

European Friends of Armenia was part of a delegation which participated in a Dutch parliament hearing about Nagorno-Karabakh and the recent increase of violence along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The hearing was organized by the Dutch parliamentarian Pieter Omtzigt and was attended by Dutch politicians. Parliament of Aragon Adopts Resolution on Armenian Genocide

As a result of several study visits organised by EuFoA to Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh with different legislators, the Parliament of Aragon has adopted a declaration recognising and condemning the Armenian Genocide. The text, which was tabled by MP Gregorio Briz Sánchez, pays homage to the over 1.5 million Armenian victims killed by the Ottoman Empire and asks all Turkish Institutions, including the government, to acknowledge this historical fact. MEP Engel Asks European Commission about Exclusion of Karabakhi Students

Frank Engel has asked the European Commission in a written question about the exclusion of Karabakhi students and teachers from education programmes sponsored by the European Union.  Students from the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic cannot take part in these exchanges that are also available for the youth of any neighbour country, including the eastern Partnership area. EU-Armenia relations will benefit from new EU approach to its neighbourhood

High Representative Mogherini and Commissioner Hahn have presented the "Review of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP)", which takes into consideration the result of public consultations carried out with stakeholders in the first half of the year. European Green Party Adopts Resolution on Armenian Genocide

A resolution on the Armenian Genocide has been adopted by a large majority at the 23rd European Green Party Council in Lyon. The text acknowledges that the Ottoman Empire perpetrated Genocide against the Armenian people. It also calls on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide and work towards reconciliation with the Armenia and its people. European Friends of Armenia publishes paper on European values and the Syrian exodus

European Friends of Armenia published a paper which analyses the response of the European Union, Armenia and countries in the Middle East to the Syrian refugee crisis.The study shows that by basing its approach on solidarity Armenia has demonstrated it truly does embody European values. Armenia has welcomed around 17 000 refugees since the start of the Syrian civil war. MEP Charles Tannock asks Federica Mogherini about ceasefire violations

Dr Charles Tannock, ECR group coordinator in the Foreign Affairs committee of the European Parliament, has tabled a priority question to the High Representative and Vice-president of the European Commission about the recent military escalation in the South Caucasus.  The violence has resulted in the death of three Armenian civilians and has since extended to the Nagorno-Karabakh line of contact, killing soldiers from both sides.
